Wilcox Public Library
In 1963, the Jones Township P.T.A. began plans for a library in Wilcox. Members of the P.T.A. and various volunteers worked diligently to raise funds and collect books to house in the library's collection.
On July 23, 1963 the Wilcox Public Library first opened its doors (in the Barratt Building) to the public. The Library was open every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and charged 10 cents for each library card. In August of 1963, the library extended its hours to Tuesday & Thursday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Wednesday & Friday 7:00 pm to 9:00 p.m.
Over the years the library continued to grow and extend its services, the library was relocated to the old Wilcox Bank Building in the 1980's and continued operating there for several years. In 2001, the library became a Pennsylvania State Aided and began participating in the AccessPA program; which allows our patrons to borrow (either through interlibrary loans or in person borrowing) from any other library in Pennsylvania that also belongs to the program.
In 2008, the Wilcox Public Library Board of Directors along with the Wilcox Area Development Corporation and Jones Township Supervisors worked diligently to procure funds through grants and donations to renovate the Barratt Building and bring the library back where it started; the library opened its doors at the Barratt Building (the current location) in January of 2009.
The library continues to incorporate new services to offer our patrons, we hope that this trend can continue for many more years to come.
